Photograph the dramatic and rugged narrows of the Utah Badlands and experience the colorful hues of this untamed part of Utah with our expert guides.Our intimate knowledge of the area and a guide to participant ratio of 1:4 will allow us to provide you with the best way to capture the breathtaking beauty that this untamed part of the Colorado Plateau has to offer.
On this photo adventure, we will explore many picturesque locations. This area is is overflowing with dramatic sandstone features including arches, monoliths, endless canyons, red rock, white domes, and countless stunning desert features to feast your eyes on.
Be prepared to enjoy more diversity in the landscape as we venture outside of the more well-known locations. This region is home to some of the most interesting badlands in the world. The colorful hues of Bentonite Hills, the bluish Mancos Shale badlands, and the deep martian-red badlands of the Chinle Formations are just some of the areas we will visit.
With its dark skies and endless foregrounds, we’ll also have several opportunities to photographing the stars in one of the few remaining dark skies in the US.This is a drone-friendly workshop and we will be happy to assist with instructions on how to take spectacular photos using your drone!
Safety & Medical:
All participants are required to have full COVID-19 vaccination at least 15 days before the workshop. You will be expected to follow instructions to ensure you are kept safe and out of harm’s way.
Landscape photography is not without risk. Wind, rain, mud, wildlife and the terrain are real dangers when photographing on location. You are expected to follow instructions to ensure you are kept safe and out of harm’s way.
You must advise Viking International Phototours at the time of booking and in writing of any illness, injury, or pre-existing medical conditions that might reasonably be expected to affect your attendance and participation during the workshop.
Itinerary Disclaimer:
Our workshop’s itinerary is subject to change at the discretion of our Photo Guides depending on factors including but not limited to weather, road conditions, transportation delays, and other factors beyond our control. We will check the weather forecasts and road conditions and plan our day to optimize shooting conditions. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to visit all the locations on the itinerary.
Meet the guides:
Cell/Mobile Reception:
Please be aware that cell/mobile reception is intermittent throughout parts of the Southwest US. You can expect to be offline at times.
In the event of an emergency, our Guides are First-Aid, CPR/AED, and Wilderness trained and certified by the Red Cross. They will carry a satellite beacon, which allows them access to emergency services if there is no cell service available.
Aerial/Drone Photography:
If you own a drone, you are welcome to bring it along to this workshop.
Please note that you are solely responsible for your equipment and are expected to adhere to all rules and regulations specified by the Federal Aviation Administration (which can be accessed here) and any other applicable state, park, and monument-specific regulations.
Viking International Phototours and our Photo Guides will not be liable for any injury or damage caused to equipment, environment, or people caused by you operating your drone during our workshop.

FAQ:
How do I sign up and pay for this workshop?
A deposit of $200 is required for this workshop to hold your spot, you can pay by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal via PayPal.com or send a check (U.S. residents only). The balance is due on Dec 15, 2021. All participants must sign William Yu Photography Workshops/Tours Liability Waiver Form and show the proof of travel insurance before the tour starts.
How many participants do you allow?
Photo tour size is limited to 8 attendees, which ensures that every attendee will get full attention.
What photographic skill level is required to benefit from this workshop?
Any people who has a basic understanding of exposure all the way to the advanced amateur and professional who is in search of a fresh perspective!
What is your refund or cancellation policy?
The are no refunds for cancellations or changes made less than 100 days before the workshop start date. However, if we/you are able to fill your spot, we will refund your payment minus a $200 processing fee.
William Yu Photo Workshops (William Yu LLC) reserves the right to cancel or reschedule tours and workshops due to Force Majeure or impossible weather conditions where safety of the buyer cannot be guaranteed. We will strive to make every attempt to reschedule the workshop or tour within 2 years of the original scheduled date. No refunds will be given but participants will be reserved a spot on the rescheduled tour or will receive credit for use towards another workshop or tour.
In the very unlikely event that a tour or workshop is canceled, we will refund the workshop fee to participants. Expenses related to travel and accommodations not provided by us will not be refunded. We require that you obtain Trip Cancellation & Travel Insurance after booking your trip with us. Proof of coverage is required 90 days before the workshop starts. Please contact us for any additional questions with regards to our cancellation and refund policy.
Please note that some of our workshops with partner companies may have non-refundable deposits. We will be happy to apply your deposit to another one of our future workshops instead.
